Painting the Human Form:
observation and interpretation
session 3
July 5, 2021 – July 16, 2021
Over the course of the two week class we will be using a live model to explore the human form in paint. Each week we will work from one long pose towards a fully realized painting with particular emphasis on the interpretive nature of observation. Class discussions and daily demonstrations will focus on developing a holistic approach to translating the visual experience, with an appreciation for the narrative potential of various design elements.

Instructor
Using a reduced palette we’ll explore shape design, dynamics of light and form, tonal abstraction, palette organization and the “optical impression”.
Various trips to museums and churches will allow for a deeper internalization of the concepts discussed in class.
